Article Writing Tips - Common Grammar and Spelling Mistakes to Avoid

In another edition of my Article Writing edition, I am attempting to present a piece of my mind which is from my own personal experience of observing and conversing with writers, clients and common everyday folks. Don't get me wrong. I am not perfectionist myself and am no language, grammar or spelling guru. What i am about to share are common mistakes committed and it should be avoided.

I am not even going to the different spellings that are used in the U.S. and U.K (ise vs ize etc) but these are even more frequently misused. Ask yourself if you know the differences of the below and when to use them.

Do you know which is correct between the following?

1) Hes an aspiring student who strives for only the best.

2) His an aspiring student who strives for only the best.

3) He's an aspiring student who strives for only the best.

1) He is running to school as he had missed the bus this morning.

2) Hes running to school as he had missed the bus this morning.

3) He's running to school as he had missed the bus this morning.

4) Hes running too school as he had missed the bus this morning.

1) There are various factors contributing to the success of SEO.

2) They're various factors contributing to the success of SEO.

3) Their various factors contributing to the success of SEO.

From the above sample sentences I am referring to the common everyday words of to vs too, his vs he's vs hes and there are vs they're vs their vs they are. I have come across many - too many in fact who make these mistakes over and over again. Native English speakers and writers are no exception. Basically, if you do not know when and where to use these, you are in trouble if you are a Copy Writer/Proofreader or aspire to be one.

The answer to the earlier paragraphs is the obvious "He's an aspiring student who strives for only the best", "He is running to school as he had missed the bus this morning" along with "He's running to school as he had missed the bus this morning" and "There are various factors contributing to the success of SEO".

For those of you who can safely say "I know when and where to use these", you may even laugh at the simplicity of it but it is of utmost importance as there are a handful of people who keep repeating these mistakes over and over again. IF you fall in the latter category, take my advice and start learning when and where to use them. It can be easily found over the net or through grammar/spelling books. However, if you need assistance, feel free to contact me and I would be glad to provide some tips and coaching where and when possible.

Until my next installment of article(s), have a productive day/week. Grammar and spelling is something that is of utmost importance. Beginning with he, his, he's, to, too, they are, they're, their and there are, they are liable to present more of a thorn in the side than anybody can imagine.
